Knicks' Julius Randle to Partake in All-Star's 3-Point Contest

Randle, the New York Knicks' rep in Sunday's main event, steps up in place of Portland's Anfernee Simmons.

It'll be anything but an All-Star break for Julius Randle.

In addition to partaking in Sunday's main event during All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City (7:30 p.m. ET, TNT), Randle is now set to rep his New York Knicks at the Starry 3-Point Contest on Saturday (8 p.m. ET, TNT). Per Shams Charania, Randle is serving as an injury replacement for Portland's Anfernee Simmons.

Competing alongside Randle will be Indiana teammates Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield (the 2020 champion), Tyler Herro (Miami), Kevin Huerter (Sacramento), Damian Lillard (Portland), Lauri Markkanen (Utah), and Jayson Tatum (Boston).

Randle is shooting 33.8 from three-point range this season, an improvement from last year's disappointing follow-up to his original All-Star campaign in 2021. He's leading the Knicks with 161 successful triples, which is good for 10th in the Association this season. He'll become the first New Yorker to partake in the NBA's competition since Steve Novak did so in the 2013 staging in Houston.

While no Knicks has ever won the 3-Point Contest, the team has been well-represented since its original staging in 1986. Others to compete include Trent Tucker, Hubert Davis, Charlie Ward, Allan Houston, Quentin Richardson, and Danilo Gallinari.

As the Knicks (33-27) capped off their pre-All-Star slate on a high note, they'll be well-represented at the festivities in Salt Lake City. After Randle's long-distance showing, Jericho Sims will partake in the Slam Dunk Contest while Quentin Grimes will appear in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday (9 p.m. ET, TNT).
