Knicks' Winning Streak Earns Julius Randle Another NBA Accolade
The past month-plus has gone so well for the New York Knicks that they're even earning victories on their days off.
Julius Randle was named one of the NBA's Players of the Week on Monday afternoon for his role in the Knicks' latest addition to an active nine-game winning streak that's tied for the fourth-longest in the Association this season. Knicks teammate Immanuel Quickley was named as an honorable mention as well.
Randle's resurgent season has carried on through the Knicks' streak of success, as he averaged 29.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over the past week, which saw New York (39-27) add four more wins to its ledger including three against competition currently situated with them amongst the Eastern Conference's top six (two over Boston, one over Brooklyn). In the outlier, a 122-120 Friday win over seventh-place Miami, Randle put in 43 points, the final three coming on a buzzer-beating triple for win No. 8. He then had 31 points in the double-overtime victory over the Celtics to close out the weekend.
With the award, Randle becomes the second Knick to take home weekly hardware, joining Jalen Brunson's campaign for the week ending Jan. 16. It's also his second time capturing the Eastern Conference's version, previously clinching it in April 2021. Honored alongside Randle was Phoenix's Devin Booker, who took home the Western Conference honor with 36-point and 7.7-assist averages in a similarly undefeated week (3-0).
Quickley's efforts were also partly recognized by the Association after he stepped into the starting lineup for an injured Brunson on Sunday in Beantown. Playing 55 minutes, the Sixth Man of the Year candidate put in a career-high 38 points, including the Knicks' first seven tallies of the second and final overtime session en route to a 131-129 win that allowed New York bragging rights in the long-standing rivalry.
Randle, Quickley, and the rest of the Knicks will have a chance to protect their respective titles and streaks come Tuesday when they face the Charlotte Hornets at home (7:30 p.m. ET, MSG).
