WATCH: Knicks All-Star Julius Randle 'Gets Back To It' in Workout Video
Julius Randle has a heavy burden to bear in his fifth season with the New York Knicks and he's getting started a little early.
The metropolitan All-Star posted a workout video on his Instagram page, one armed with the caption "Getting back to it" accompanied by a muscled emoji. Set to a track from rapper Gunna, Randle is primarily shown working his lower body, primarily the left ankle that marred the final stages of an otherwise-stellar season for the 28-year-old.
Randle was on pace to play in all 82 Knicks games this season but sustained an ankle injury in the 77th, one that kept him out of the final five contests. Third-team All-NBA honors awaited Randle, who averaged a double-double at 25.1 points and 10 rebounds while helping the Knicks lock up the fifth seed on the Eastern Conference playoff bracket. Randle was also invited to his second NBA All-Star Game, both coming with New York in the last three season.
But upon returning from the ankle ailment in the postseason, Randle struggled to rediscover his game, as his averages dropped to 16.6 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting just over 37 percent from the floor. Shortly after the Knicks' elimination at the hands of the Miami Heat in the second round, Randle underwent ankle surgery and is expected to be ready to take the floor when the Knicks reunite for training camp this fall.
Though Jalen Brunson might have taken over as the face of the team, Randle has proven himself equally valuable and capable of reversing the Knicks' downtrodden new-century fortunes. The upcoming 2023-24 season presents a new challenge for the 10th-year pro: not only will he be playing on the first year of a nine-figure contract extension, but he'll be look to build on last season's success and avoid a post-playoff slump that followed after the Knicks' fourth-place posting in 2020-21.
