Just when you thought it was safe to turn off Adrian Wojnarowski's notifications, he closed the night with more New York Knicks news.

Hours after breaking news of the trade that sent former Toronto Raptors staple OG Anunoby to Manhattan, the ESPN insider announced that the Knicks agreed to a three-year, $13 million contract extension with reserve guard Miles McBride.

McBride, a second-round pick from 2021's draft, is in the midst of his third season with the Knicks. While he has struggled to gain a lasting role in the Knicks' rotation, he has made a name for himself on defense and is now locked up for the foreseeable future.

While he has played sparingly this season McBride figures to play a larger role with the Knicks in the immediate future: while the Anunoby trade also netted backcourt depth in the form of Malachi Flynn, the Knicks (17-15) will likely try to utilize any form of familiarity while the incoming Raptors settle in.

Shortly before news of his deal broke, McBride played a season-high 18 minutes in Saturday's 140-126 loss to the Indiana Pacers. The West Virginia alum, affectionately referred to as "Deuce" put up five points and an assist. He was charged with three fouls but the Knicks were a plus-7 when he was on the floor.

New York could use some extended defensive antics from McBride: Saturday's loss, the Knicks' third in a row and fourth in the last five, marked the third time they've given up at least 140 points this month, reaching that dubious mark for the first time in franchise history.

Time will tell if McBride continues to see extended minutes. The Knicks open the new calendar year on Monday afternoon when the Minnesota Timberwolves come to visit Madison Square Garden (3 p.m. ET, MSG/NBA TV).
