Knicks' Mitchell Robinson Taking Social Media Break, Focusing on Mental Health
Mitchell Robinson is prioritizing his mental health amidst his ongoing effort to improve his physical state.
The New York Knicks' primary center is often a mainstay on Snapchat but Robinson announced that he's stepping away from all social media to attend to personal affairs.
“My mental health (has) been giving me hell the past few weeks," Robinson said (h/t Knicks Muse on X). "So, I’m going to be off social media for a while (until) I get myself back. I appreciate everyone who supports me on my journey. All love."
This year has been bittersweet for Robinson, the longest-tenured New Yorker at six seasons. He was making a sterling case for inclusion on the NBA's All-Defensive Team before a December ankle injury sidelined him for the immediate future. At the time of his ailment, Robinson was also averaging a career-best 10.3 rebounds a game, more than half coming on the offensive glass.
Robinson is likely out for the season, as the Knicks have applied for a Disabled Player Exception to remove some of his $15.6 million cap hit from the 2023-24 books.
Though the Knicks initially suffered without Robinson in the lineup, particularly on defense, they've found their footing thanks to the emergence of backup center Isaiah Hartenstein and the arrival of former Toronto Raptor OG Anunoby. Robinson is in the midst of the second season of a four-year, $60 million contract bestowed to him during the summer of 2022.
