The New York Knicks are a few months away from participating in the first-ever NBA Cup, the new in-season competition officially introduced on Saturday evening.

All 30 teams will be split into six groups of five based on a random draw, three teams in the West and three in the East. Games will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays in November and will count toward regular season records

After the four games in group play (two home and two road contests), the top team from each group, along with a wild card from the East and West, will advance to knockout play.

Those who advance past the single-elimination knockout will play in the semifinals and finals in Las Vegas, with a winner will be crowned on Dec. 9. Players on the winning team will win a considerable amount of prize money.

The Knicks, are in East Group B, which also features the Miami Heat. New York's season ended against the defending Eastern Conference champions, who ousted them in a six-game set in the second round. Miami and New York be joined in the group by Charlotte, Milwaukee, and Washington.

Elsewhere in the East, Group A will consist of Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, and Philadelphia. Rounding Group C are Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Orlando, and Toronto.

Group A in the West features another playoff rematch, as the Los Angeles Lakers will face the Memphis Grizzlies for the first time since the latter pulled off a six-game upset in the quarterfinals. That crew is rounded out by Phoenix, Portland, and Utah.

The defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets are in Group B of the West alongside Dallas, Houston, the Los Angeles Clippers, and New Orleans.

Rounding out the field in the West's Group C which features one last postseason reunion between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings (a seven-game win for the former in the opening round). They're joined by Minnesota, Oklahoma City, and San Antonio.
