WATCH: Josh Hart Sings Journey as Knicks Clobber Cavs
New York Knicks fans certainly hope Josh Hart doesn't quit his day job. All the evidence he needed to stick with his current profession revealed itself on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.
Musical legends of the past and present have graced the famed space of MSG but it's clear that Hart won't be one of them anytime soon. As the Knicks finished off a 102-93 NBA playoff victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers ... one that put them ahead 3-1 in their best-of-seven series in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals ... ABC cameras caught Hart singing along to the power ballad "Don't Stop Believin'" by the band Journey.
With Hart wearing a microphone for the network's gameday coverage, his off-key solo was captured in high definition. Whereas viewers at home had the luxury of the mute button, Hart's teammate DaQuan Jeffries, who was seated next to the former Portland Trail Blazer on the bench, wasn't so lucky.
"I would not play basketball if I could sing, bro," Hart tells a laughing Jeffries. "If I could sing, bro, I'm going on tour!"
Hart's chances at a music side hustle take a further hit from ABC's play-by-play man Mike Breen, who refers to the impromptu cover as a "horrific version." It's perhaps a stark contrast to the rave reviews Hart garnered for his interlocking "NY" braids he debuted when the Knicks made their 2023 postseason debut on Friday, a 99-79 triumph.
Fortunately for the Knicks, Hart has no need to get into music with the way he's been contributing to the team's success in his maiden postseason voyage. In four games, Hart is averaging 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals while shooting 60 percent from the field.
He came up big in the Game 4 triumph on Sunday: inserted into the starting lineup in place of the injured Quentin Grimes, Hart had 19 points, seven rebounds, and two steals en route to victory. Including their 3-1 mark in the postseason, the Knicks are 20-9 when Hart dons blue and orange, having come over in a February trade with Portland.
Hart and the Knicks have their first opportunity to channel Journey's 1980 album "Departure" on Wednesday night when Game 5 shifts the series back to Cleveland (7 p.m. ET, MSG/NBA TV).
