Mitchell Robinson: New York Knicks' Preseason MVP?

Mitchell Robinson put forth a strong individual effort in an otherwise lackluster New York Knicks preseason.
In this story:

The New York Knicks wrapped up preseason play on Wednesday with a 131-106 loss to the Washington Wizards. Jordan Poole led the way with 41 points, 29 alone coming in the first quarter alone.

New York finished with a 1-3 record in the preseason. Even with several major names playing reduced minutes and others held out entirely, the stretch could be viewed as disappointing after last year's success. The Knicks gave up an average of 120.5 points over the four exhibitions, the second-worst rate in the league ahead of only Detroit.

But this does not mean that there were no positive preseason takeaways.

Center Mitchell Robinson, despite several trade rumors lingering, had himself a fairly solid early fall. He played in all four contests and was one of the bright spots for the Knicks as he prepares to embark upon his sixth season in New York

Over his four appearances, Robinson averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in just 22.5 minutes per contest. Perhaps the most impressive stat for the big man was the fact that he only missed five shots over the course of the preseason, going a combined 20-of-25 from the field (albeit with only one attempt beyond five feet from the rim).

Robinson also did what he does best and got it done on the defensive side as well, totaling four blocked shots along with seven steals. He also was able to get the team a lot of second chances on the offensive side, as he tallied up an impressive 17 offensive rebounds as well (second-most among all preseason participants behind only Chicago's Andre Drummond).

Robinson will continue to have opportunities to further prove his value to the Knicks when play their first regular season game on Wednesday in Madison Square Garden against the rival Boston Celtics (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).
