Knicks Advisor Emerging as Scott Perry GM Replacement

Scott Perry is set to leave the New York Knicks as general manager, but the team may have a quick in-house fix.
In this story:

The New York Knicks are in a period of transition this summer as Scott Perry isn't expected to renew his contract when it expires in the coming months.

Perry, 59, joined the Knicks in 2017 and deserves credit for the partial turnaround of a woeful franchise that recently wrapped its most successful in a decade. His tenure brought in newly-minted franchise face Jalen Brunson and drafted names like RJ Barrett, Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchell Robinson.

However, it's time for a new era and NBA insider Marc Stein believes that Perry's replacement could come from within the organization ... senior advisor Gersson Rosas.

"A popular question increasingly circulating among rival teams: Does Scott Perry's recent departure from the Knicks' front office clear the way for team consultant Gersson Rosas to be promoted to general manager under Knicks president of basketball operations Leon Rose? More than one team out there expects it," Marc Stein writes.

Rosas, 45, has been in the NBA for 20 years serving mainly as the executive vice president of basketball operations for the Houston Rockets. The Colombia native was briefly named the Dallas Mavericks' general manager in 2013, becoming the first Latino GM in NBA history, but held that role for only three months before going back to Houston.

He left the Rockets in 2019 for a promotion with the Minnesota Timberwolves but was fired after two years on the job. he Knicks hired him as a senior advisor in February 2022 and he has been stationed there ever since.

Rosas has experience running a front office and has seen a lot in his 20 years in the NBA. If the Knicks were to make an internal change, Rosas could certainly be a strong candidate for the job.
