Knicks' RJ Barrett Scores 12 For Canada in Loss to Germany (Highlights)
New York Knicks small forward RJ Barrett and Team Canada lost to Germany 86-81 in Wednesday's exhibition ahead of the FIBA World Cup next month.
Barrett was second in scoring for Canada with 12 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-4 from downtown. His tally was just behind Oklahoma City Thunder guard Luguentz Dort, who was first among Canada's scorers with 14 in defeat.
Led by Dennis Schröder (Toronto), Daniel Theis (Indiana), and Franz Wagner (Orlando), the Germans held a 27-14 lead after the first period. Barrett and the Canadians recovered to score 20 in the second but still trailed by 16 at the break.
Barrett and Team Canada would come out with a vengeance in the second half, as they climbed all the way back to tie the game at 79 in the fourth quarter. Wagner, however, drained a three-pointer and Schröder hit the dagger near the basket after a blocked shot fell into his lap to go up by five.
Barrett and Dort were one of four Canadians to score double digits as Kelly Olynyk (Utah) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Minnesota) contributed 11 points each. Oklahoma City's All-NBA point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had just eight points.
Canada's next FIBA exhibition match comes on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany, against New Zealand at 9:45 a.m. ET.
