Knicks Find Summer League Magic, Get 1st Win in OT

Thanks to a standout performance from Charlie Brown Jr., the New York Knicks' prospects shut down those of the Orlando Magic en route to their first Vegas Summer League victory of 2023.

What can Brown do for the New York Knicks? At the very least, he can come through in the clutch during Summer League play.

Charlie Brown Jr.'s clutch play paved the path to a comeback victory for the Knicks' Summer League stars, as he was the leading scorer in New York's 82-80 overtime victory at Thomas & Mack Center on Wednesday night. Brown had a team-best 19 points while Jaylen Martin's last two of 12 points secured the win in an untimed extra session that featured a target score.

New York (1-2) seemed destined for its third consecutive loss after falling behind by as much as 13 in the second half. They were outscored 23-12 by Orland (0-3) in the third quarter, which saw them lose eight turnovers, and went ice cold from three-point range (missing 11 of their next 12 after a 3-for-5 start). The Knicks also struggled from the foul line, sinking just 6-of-14 throughout the game.

But the Knicks buckled down in the final frame, doubling up the Magic 22-11 and forcing 21 turnovers of their own throughout the contest. Elsewhere in the box score, the Knicks enjoyed a productive evening from QJ Peterson off the bench, as he was one rebound (five offensive) short of a double-double while totaling 16 points. New York was also a plus-19 when he was on the floor while Trevor Keels (combined minus-52 over the first two games) was a plus-9 despite continued shooting struggles (4-of-13).

Jett Howard led the way for the Magic with 22 points but only three of those points came beyond the first 20 minutes.

The Knicks' final scheduled Summer League opponent before a yet-to-be-revealed fifth game will be the Boston Celtics, whom they face on Friday night (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
