Sabrina Ionescu's already getting a foot up on her competition.

The New York Liberty star and WNBA history-maker has entered into a partnership with renowned sportswear brand Nike, unveiling the "Sabrina 1" apparel collection, a unisex line that took intel from both female and male athletes. It is set for a release this summer, in the midst of what's set to be one of the Liberty's most anticipated

“Ionescu is the first women’s basketball player to deliver a unisex signature collection with Nike, Inc.,” said Kerry Sobol, Nike's Vice President of Global Women’s Team and Organized Sports, in a statement. “We are thrilled she will lead the charge with us and continue to change the scope of the game for future generations.”

Ionescu shared photos of the shoe on her social media pages. Teammates from the past (Rebecca Allen) and present (DiDi Richards) were among those expressing well-wishes and potentially expecting a pair.

Headlining the showcase is her first signature shoe, the titular Sabrina 1. It is said to be partly inspired by Ionescu's Romanian heritage with subtle designs to the nation's art and architecture. A dotted lowercase "i" wraps around the soles along with the hidden message "Anyone, Anywhere," claimed by Nike to reference Ionescu's "unmatched competitive spirit as well as her belief that dreamers can come from anywhere."

Ionescu is set to enter her third full WNBA season in New York, fresh off her first professional All-Star campaign. The Oregon alumna averaged 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists en route to the Liberty's second consecutive playoff appearance, which saw them take the defending champion Chicago Sky to a decisive third game in the opening round. New York reloaded this offseason to the tune of historic WNBA talents like Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, and Courtney Vandersloot, but Ionescu, the top overall pick of the 2020 WNBA Draft after a historic career with the Ducks, remains the team's homegrown attraction as it prepares to press forward at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The 2023 New York Liberty season opens on May 19 when the team takes on the Washington Mystics on the road.
