Liberty Sign Two to Training Camp Deals
The New York Liberty revealed two additions to their training camp roster, signing Morgan Green and Stephanie Mawuli to the preliminary group. New York now features 16 names on its roster with camp set to open on April 30
Green spent her college days between Michigan State and UC Irvine, notably earning first-team All-Big West honors after leading the conference in scoring at the end of the 2017-18 season, which yielded the Anteaters' first postseason bid in over two decades (the Women's Basketball Invitational). Currently, Green is playing in Budapest, repping E.ON ELTE BEAC Budapest in Hungary's A Division, averaging 17 points and 5.7 assists.
Also on board for at least the camp ride is Mawuli, a Japanese-born forward who recently partook in a victorious run in the most recent FIBA Women's Asia Cup, where she showcased her defensive talents with 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks over five games. Her current affairs place her in the Women's Japan Basketball League, where she reps the Toyota Antelopes, the co-leaders on the standings ledgers. Mawuli, serving as the team's starting center, is averaging 14 points and 7.1 rebounds a game.
Despite their accolades, Green and Mawuli face an uphill battle in making the Liberty roster with so many major names joining the fold. They'll be jostling for roster space against 2022 draftees Nyara Sabally and Sika Koné as well as previous New Yorker Epiphanny Prince, who returns to the Liberty after four prior campaigns (2015-18).
The Liberty open their 2023 season on May 19 against the Washington Mystics.
