Knicks 'Want to Trade for a Star': 3 Most Likely to Move

Financially, Evan Fournier plus another piece can go along way to trade-matching. But talent-wise? That's where RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley come in to play ... as soon as a Knicks trade target comes into focus.
In this story:

It's an open secret that as the New York Knicks vault toward true contention, they are in the market for a star-quality addition to the Jalen Brunson-led roster.

So if one comes in, who on this roster goes out?

As noted by Fred Katz of The Athletic, the Knicks have young assets on the roster and a cupboard full of first-round picks. Who could be coming to New York? Too early to know. Who could be heading out? Katz narrows it down to a trio of New Yorkers.

In terms of attractiveness, RJ Barrett is atop the list. He has star quality and it could be argued that developing his full potential is an easier task than engineering a trade. But either way, he's a key piece here.

An easy call is Evan Fournier. The Frenchman is no longer a rotational player here, wants out, and comes with an $18.9 million expiring contract for salary matching purposes, which can prove helpful in a trade for a star.

Then there is Immanuel Quickley, who was a runner-up to Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon in the NBA Sixth Man of the Year race. He's eligible for an extension, but he's also considered semi-expendable by some because the Knicks added another guard, Donte DiVincenzo, in free agency, who could step into his role should Quickley be traded by the Knicks trade.

Financially, Fournier plus another piece can go a long way to trade-matching. But talent-wise? That's where Barrett and Quickley come into play ... as soon as a trade target comes into focus.
