Insider: No 'Significant Discussion' in Knicks' Malcolm Brogdon Trade Rumor
The New York Knicks have reportedly been active on the NBA's transactional front as the Feb. 8 trade deadline approaches. While obtaining a supposed superstar appears less likely, there is ample opportunity to get deeper in anticipation of a playoff run.
With Sdefending Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Immanuel Quickley already gone, the Knicks have reportedly kept an eye on winner Malcolm Brogdon, currently stationed in Portland. For the time being, however, progress on a deal for Brogdon has remained stagnant.
"There hadn’t been any significant discussion between New York and Portland about Malcolm Brogdon as of late last week," SNY's Ian Begley stated.
Multiple teams have reportedly shown interest in Brogdon, as he could prove to be a key contributor for a contender. Austin Wells suggested that the Knicks move their attention to New York veteran Alec Burks, who has likewise lingered in their gossip.
"If the Knicks are also focused on keeping their cap space open this summer to potentially make a play for a marquee superstar in a trade, Burks might be a more attractive trade target than Brogdon," Wells wrote. "Burks is playing on a $10.5 million expiring contract. Brogdon is signed through next season with a $22.5 million salary in 2024-25, though that's not a massive salary to move if the Knicks were to acquire him in the next two weeks and want to explore their options this summer."

Both Brogdon and Burks could help a Knicks group looking to make further progress up the Eastern leaderboard. One could even argue that they'd be better off standing pat, considering they currently sit in fifth place and have gone 9-2 in their first 11 games of the new year.
The Knicks (26-17) will loom to improve their standing on Tuesday when they have a road trip at home against the Brooklyn Nets.
