Lakers Injury Report: Austin Reaves Reveals Status For Tonight's Warriors Rematch
It's not entirely clear how many of your Los Angeles Lakers' core players will be available tonight against the Golden State Warriors.
Last Saturday, Golden State walloped LA to the tune of a 125-108 road drubbing while their three best players (that'd be small forward LeBron James, center Anthony Davis and shooting guard Austin Reaves) all sat. On the Warriors side, All-Defensive Team power forward Draymond Green was unavailable, as he will be again tonight, due to an ankle sprain that will sideline him into the start of the 2023-24 regular season.
Now, we've at least gotten a bit of clarity as to the status of Austin Reaves heading into a Crypto.com Arena rematch at 7 p.m. PT.
Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that Reaves intends to play tonight, in an effort to perhaps recreate his 2023 Western Conference Semifinals heroics against the club, during which the 25-year-old thoroughly outplayed his aging Warriors counterpart, Hall of Fame shooting guard Klay Thompson. Reaves' play during the postseason for LA, especially as a shooter, scorer and passer, cemented his status as a keeper for the club heading into restricted free agency this past summer, when he netted a lucrative $53.8 million new contract to stay with the team.
Reaves' presence on the hardwood will at least make the festivities in this (again, ultimately meaningless) matchup between two Pacific Division powerhouses.
As previously reported, recently extended power forward Jarred Vanderbilt (now under contract through at least 2027 to the tune of $12 million a season, with a player option for the next season) will sit out his third straight preseason bout with a sore heel.
