In this story:

Los Angeles Lakers reserve semi-combo guard (we'll talk about it) Gabe Vincent has barely played since joining the Purple and Gold this summer, hot off a run to the NBA Finals as the starting point guard of the Miami Heat.

Per Marc Stein, Vincent's recovery timeline has been extended once again. He is grappling with a left knee effusion, and following a recent reassessment, the Lakers medical staff determined that the 6'3" UC Santa Barbara product's knee was improving, but still needs more time. They will reappraise the ligament once again, in another two weeks.

Let's talk about his positional designation for a second. The 27-year-old is really a point guard, but LA head coach Darvin Ham loves playing guys up a position, so he's been tasked with sharing the floor with D'Angelo Russell at times already in this young season.

Across just four games with Los Angeles, Vincent has averaged a paltry six points on .393/.071/.500 shooting splits, in 28.3 minutes with the club. e's also notching three assists, 1.5 steals and one rebound a game. It's been a very disappointing offensive start, but the reason he's logging so much time is that he is the team's premier perimeter defender, essentially the new Dennis Schroder.

Assuming Vincent is indeed reassessed in two weeks and is given the green light to play that night, November 30th, against ascendant Oklahoma City Thunder, he will have missed 15 contests for the club. Even if he has mostly recovered, it's more likely that, upon reevaluation, he will be given the green light to ramp up his recovery, and we'll get a clearer timeline for his comeback.
