Lakers Injury Report: Knee Surgery For Gabe Vincent Happening Today

He's been a bust for LA so far.

Los Angeles Lakers reserve guard Gabe Vincent will be going under the knife today for an arthroscopic surgery to address a lingering left knee effusion, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

The 6'3" vet out of UC Santa Barbara is slated to sit out for the next 6-8 weeks following the operation. He's already missed 25 of LA's 30 games thus far, and hasn't at all been effective as a scorer even when he has been available.

Across his five healthy games this season, Vincent is averaging just 5.4 points per bout on paltry .375/.118/.500 shooting splits, three assists, 1.2 steals and a rebound.

He joined Los Angeles on a three-year, $33 million contract this summer, following an improbable run to the NBA Finals as the starting point guard for the Miami Heat. He's still averaging 25.4 minutes a game, as one of the team's best point-of-attack perimeter defenders.

Vincent was brought on board this offseason to essentially replace 2022-23 backup point guard Dennis Schröder, who ditched the Lakers for a two-year, $25.4 million contract with the Toronto Raptors.

The Lakers have fallen to a 16-15 record on the year, and head coach Darvin Ham appears desperate to shore up his wing defense, prioritizing perimeter defenders over shooters in his newfangled starting five (LeBron James at point guard, Taurean Prince at shooting guard, Cam Reddish at small forward, Jarred Vanderbilt at power forward, and Anthony Davis at center).
