Lakers Injury Report: Gabe Vincent Will Have Knee Surgery
After the possibility was floated earlier this week, it's now official.
Los Angeles Lakers reserve point guard Gabe Vincent will go under the knife to correct a pesky left knee effusion, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. It will be an arthroscopic procedure.
Vincent could undergo surgery as soon as tomorrow. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks as he recuperates.
The 6'3" UC Santa Barbara product was the priciest new signing added by the Lakers this offseason. LA poached him from a starting role on a Miami Heat team hot off an NBA Finals berth with a three-year, $33 million contract. Los Angeles clearly viewed him as a point-of-attack defender off the bench, basically a replacement for now-Toronto Raptors point guard Dennis Schröder's minutes.
Charania notes that Vincent sat out for nearly two months in an effort to rehabilitate the injury without resorting to a surgery, but with the swelling now back, the 27-year-old has resolved to get the scope.
He's missed 25 games thus far this year, and it sounds like he'll miss many more to come. Across five contests, he's averaging 5.4 points on .375/.118/.500 shooting splits, three assists and 1.2 steals a night. Vincent has clearly been hampered by the ailment on offense, though he flashed plenty of defensive potential across those five games, even when his shot wasn't falling.
