After Team USA lost in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the headlines were all about Lakers star LeBron James hinting that he wanted to rejoin Team USA in the 2024 Olympics. James wants to play in a final Olympic run, and he wants to bring along some of the better NBA players.

If James does return, it is expected that the other star players will follow suit as well. This includes Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns and Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors among others.

It has sparked much debate about what the roster could look like with all of the best players. But one former All-Star also wants to be included in the plans.

Former Lakers center Dwight Howard posted about his interest in joining Team USA to team up with all of the other players. You can see his social media post below.

Howard isn’t a likely candidate to make the roster, despite all of the success that he has seen over his career. He hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2021-2022 season, so it’s very doubtful that he would join Team USA.

The Americans need players who can make a difference, and Howard may not be able to do that. He can still play, as he has shown during his time overseas, but it’s a new generation of players time to shine for Team USA.

It’s a great effort by Howard to hype himself up, but his dream of joining Team USA next summer is a long shot. It’s not at a zero, because you can never say never in sports, but it’s almost a pipedream at best.
