Lakers News: Three-Time LA Title Winner's Hall Of Fame Comps For Anthony Davis
Los Angeles Lakers star big man Anthony Davis, now a full-time center with LA, started off his life at Crypto.com Arena (then the Staples Center) as a power forward, with big men JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard sharing the five position for most of the season, although Davis played plenty of center minutes during the 2020 postseason.
That could explain why three-time Los Angeles champion combo forward A.C. Green, who won titles in 1987, 1988 and 2000 with LA and netted an All-Star berth in 1990, made the player comparisons he did when asked by Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, during his Scoop B Selects series on YouTube Selects.
Below, you'll find a link to their entire conversation.
"AD has a little bit of Dirk Nowitzki in him, he has a little bit of Karl Malone in him from the power standpoint at times in the paint by playing big and dominant but he was one of those big guys that almost was the big trend, ok?" Green told Robinson. "Kevin Garnett was someone who could be a power forward but has that perimeter game. He’s got his own little teeth and his own little niche. You gotta like that."
Davis' shooting has fallen off a cliff of late, which makes me question the comps to that duo of sharpshooters in Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki and Boston Celtics power forward/center Kevin Garnett. The 6'10" big man out of the University of Kentucky really is a true center who can't do much shooting beyond the paint at this point in his career.
