Lakers News: All-Star Thinks There's More To GOAT Debate Than LeBron Vs Jordan

Los Angeles Lakers All-NBA small forward LeBron James and Hall of Fame Chicago Bulls shooting guard are often considered the two best NBA players in league history, despite Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Boston Celtics center Bill Russell both being able to legitimately lay claim to that title.

Four-time Phoenix Suns All-Star forward Shawn Marion, who won a title in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks (against James' Miami Heat), recently weighed in on the conversation.

During a conversation with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on a new episode of his YouTube series Scoop B Selects, Marion explored the concept of an all-time hoops great beyond the frequent contemporary binary, which seems to exclude some major pieces.

Marion, however, seems to view the GOAT debate more as a conversation about personal NBA favorites than about all-time greats, as he explained.

"Well, that’s the narrative that the media creates and we play into it," Marion reflected. "It seeps into us. We soak it in and we digest it daily, and so it becomes a part of our thought process in our daily conversation. So, with that being said though, a lot of fans out here believe that there are a lot of other players as their favorite player -- it’s not Michael Jordan. It’s not LeBron. It’s somebody else. It could be Shawn Marion. It could be Tim Duncan or whoever. It’s plenty of guys that played this game that people are die hard fans of and if that’s who they chose to be their GOAT, that’s what it is."
