The great basketball players who've donned a Los Angeles Lakers jersey have not only cemented themselves as LA greats, but also as all-time greats.

From George Mikan to Jerry West, Elgin Baylor to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson to Shaquille O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant to Pau Gasol, all have unmatched resumes, and they did their all/most damage as members of the Purple and Gold.

The Lakers' fraternity is unlike any other, and two current Lakers have a great shot at joining that pristine club.

Superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Both are all-time greats and are building toward great Lakers. One great Laker, Pau Gasol, received the honor of a lifetime when the Lakers brass retired his number 16 jersey last week against the Memphis Grizzlies.

It was a joyous and emotional ceremony. After the ceremony, as the Lakers were heading back on the court, Davis stopped to congratulate Gasol and revealed what he told him in the post-game presser.

"I actually told Pau that I want to hopefully be up there one day as well," Davis said. "I mean, that's a huge honor to be up there with the greats -- and he deserved it."

Pau told the media that Davis has the tools to be a Laker great and could eventually have his jersey in the rafters. There is no doubting AD's ability; he's already an all-time great, and it was proven when he made the NBA's greatest 75 players of all time last season. However, can he be a Laker great? As a Laker, he already has - an NBA championship, one All-NBA First team, one All-Defensive First team, and a two-time All-Star.

Although the list is impressive, he must do more to be considered a Laker great. Hopefully, he can remain a Laker for the rest of his career and collect more chips and accolades for the purple and gold.

In the meantime, AD is killing it, and we hope he can stay healthy and keep dominating.
