Lakers News: Anthony Davis Leapfrogs LeBron James In Preseason MVP Odds
For the past 21 years, Los Angeles Lakers small forward LeBron James has been involved in MVP discussions. The first ballot Hall of Famer has consistently put together seasons worthy of the Most Valuable Player award.
Heading into this year however, James is not the favorite to win the award according to the sports book.
There is another Laker who has better odds than James to take home the award at the end of the season.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Anthony is +3000 to be named the league MVP.
Davis has shorter odds than LeBron who comes into the season at +5000 to win MVP. Davis has only placed in the top three of MVP voting once in his career. That came during the 2017-2018 season when he was on the Pelicans.
The Lakers forward is poised for a big year as he is fully healthy coming into the season.
James is also entering the season fully healthy, but as a 38-year-old his odds have dipped. James, a four time NBA MVP, hasn't won one since the 2012-2013 season with the Heat. His most recent second-place finish transpired during the 2017-18 season, when he was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers and not as impeded by health or age.
With a new season on the horizon, expectations are high for the Lakers. They do have two MVP candidates in the top 20 of betting odds, after all.
