As Lakers Battle Looms, Bill Simmons Thinks Russell Westbrook's Clippers Days Are Numbered
While the pairing of former Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook and the team never mixed well together, he has found success in his latest journey with the Los Angeles Clippers. After signing with them toward the end of last season, Westbrook has seemed happier, and more like himself.
He re-signed with the Clippers this offseason on a two-year deal, and he showed that he still has plenty of juice left in the tank. While he isn’t the same player that he once was, fans can still watch him and get glimpses every so often.
But with the Clippers recent trade to acquire star guard James Harden, it could mean that Westbrook's role with the team may diminish. Long-time NBA analyst Bill Simmons believes that his days with the Clippers could be numbered, especially given that Harden has played point guard mainly over the last few seasons.
If the Clippers deem Westbrook isn’t needed any longer, it would likely mean that they would move him at the trade deadline. This would be a bummer for all involved because he does seem to look like he enjoys basketball once again.
The former Lakers point guard has already played alongside Harden, in different circumstances of course, but it didn't work then. This move to land Harden could force Westbrook out of the rotation.
The Clippers will be taking on the Lakers for the first time this season, and it could be one of the only times Westbrook is a mainstay in the rotation. It will certainly be interesting to see how this trade changes things for the Clippers, and the Lakers will be watching their in-arena rivals closely as well.
