Austin Reaves Looking Forward to Facing Former Lakers Teammate in FIBA World Cup
International competition brings out the best in some of the world's greatest and it's no different this season for Team USA guard Austin Reaves.
When asked about who he was looking forward to facing in the tournament, Reaves mentioned one former teammate as his no. 1 choice to play against.
Schroeder joined the Lakers for his second stint in the 2022-23 season after a famed rejection of a significant $84 million extension from the purple and gold after the 2021 year.
In said second stint with LA, the German guard would pair with Reaves to solidify a playoff backcourt that reached the Western Conference Finals.
Unable to take a game against the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets, Schroeder signed with the Raptors in the offseason while Reaves re-signed with LA for a four year contract.
Now enemies on the NBA stage, the summer tune up will be a way to get some international competition going as well.
An aggressive point of attack defender, Schroeder might be matched up with his former teammate in Reaves.
Reaves to his credit has evolved his own game as both a pick and roll ball handler and an aggressive driver into the paint.
Former Laker in Mo Wagner also plays for the German team as another ex-member of purple and gold looking for revenge on his former squad.
Both the American and German teams boast a bevy on NBA talent aside from those with Los Angeles ties and are eager to prove their stuff for their respective nations.
It's a matchup that we can't wait to see unfold between friends turned foes for at least this tournament for another chapter.
