One of the best stories that has come from the Los Angeles Lakers franchise in the last few seasons has been the rise of guard Austin Reaves. Reaves went un-drafted in the 2021 NBA draft but has worked his way to becoming one of the most important pieces to this Lakers team.

His overall growth in his game last season helped see the Lakers make a run to the Western Conference Finals, also helping him earn a new four-year contract from LA. He has come into the organization and just worked, showing he has the dedication for success in the NBA.

In the postseason, Reaves averaged 16.9 points, 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 36.2 minutes per game. He was one of the engines that made the team go.

During the playoff run, LA leaned on Reaves to help run the offense, and they want to continue that this season. They believe that they unlocked something that could make their offense even more efficient.

Reaves spoke on his accomplishments over the last two seasons.

“The basketball gods are real. If you’re pure to the game, the game will be pure to you back eventually. It’s been a beautiful two years.”

In addition to the new contract and the new fame, Reaves was selected to represent Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Being one of the 12 players to play for the team is a special honor, and one that doesn’t just come to everyone.

“It’s been crazy,” Reaves said. “To get here and be rewarded with the contract [and] being on Team USA … all those dark days not getting recruited, not getting drafted, all that’s come to light.

Per The OC Register

It has been a special time for Reaves lately, and it should only continue to grow. LA is counting on him to keep growing his game, and if he does, the Lakers will be one of the best teams in the league next season.
