Lakers News: Darvin Ham Offers Conflicting Explanations For Resting Anthony Davis Wednesday

Ham's comments are somewhat at odds with each other.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham recently offered up contradictory explanations when asked about LA's decision-making regarding star center Anthony Davis.

Per Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, Ham initially claimed that the Lakers decided to rest Davis for Wednesday night's eventual 123-117 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder because the team was "monitoring" the right foot stress reaction that had previously sidelined him for nearly six weeks earlier this season.

The fact that the ailment is still active is pretty darn disconcerting, especially with All-Star small forward LeBron James shelved for at least the next three weeks with a right tendon injury.

Woike then revealed that Ham also said the Lakers had decided to sit Davis on Wednesday "weeks ago" because that game transpired on the second night of a back-to-back.

These responses are pretty incongruous with each other, no? One wonders if the back-to-back note was more of a cover for the frustrating reality that Davis just is not healthy.

Davis absolutely needs to be healthy-ish right now for LA to have a shot at the postseason. The team has also been without its third leading scorer (behind Davis and James), point guard D'Angelo Russell, for the past week due to a right ankle sprain, while his replacement in the team's starting lineup, Dennis Schröder, is questionable to play in a winnable game against the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight due to a left ankle sprain.

Point being, LA could use some good injury luck at some point this year. Davis's health being murky is less than ideal.
