Lakers News: Details On Austin Reaves' First Scrimmage For Team USA
On Thursday, Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Austin Reaves partook in his inaugural scrimmage with Team USA in preparation for this month's FIBA World Cup festivities.
Per Tim Bontemps of ESPN, the 6'5" wing played alongside Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brunson, Brooklyn Nets forwards Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson, Milwaukee Bucks power forward/center Bobby Portis, and Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler.
Team USA head coach Steve Kerr, in the full throes of his offseason break from his gig as the Golden State Warriors' head coach, spoke about his overall approach to strategy following the practice.
"Complex is not a word that we're going to use in USA Basketball very often, just due to the nature of the whole thing," Kerr said. "Six weeks, and part of my coaching experience with USA Basketball ... we got to carry forward the experience that we had, good and bad, and understand how we can make things more efficient and understand the timeline and how quickly this thing starts. "So, simpler is better."
As we've previously discussed, Kerr is still figuring out just who will start. Beyond Reaves, two ex-Lakers are also on Team USA: Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, both of whom were flipped to New Orleans as part of the Anthony Davis trade in 2019 (Hart is now with the Knicks).
