Lakers News: Draymond Green Vowed To Improve On His Game 1 Performance
Following a lackluster performance in his Golden State Warriors' 117-112 Game 1 loss to your Los Angeles Lakers, power forward Draymond Green was aware he needed to improve his output for tonight's Game 2, per Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.
Green scored just six points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field, though he did dish out seven assists, grab four rebounds, block three shots and swipe one steal.
“I’ve got to play better,” Green said postgame. “My aggressiveness on both ends of the floor [needs to improve... I think I allowed the three [first half] fouls to kind of take me out of rhythm and never really found it again.”
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports believes that Golden State was over-reliant on its normal-sized lineup, featuring 6'9" starting center Kevon Looney (who to his credit did have 10 points and 23 rebounds) for much of the game, and once the club went all-in on a small-ball lineup featuring Green at center, the Warriors went on a quick 14-0 run to even up the score with just 1:38 remaining in the game's fourth quarter.
Currently, Green has 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, 11 rebounds, eight assists and a steal, and his Warriors lead the Lakers 97-74 with 2:15 remaining in the third quarter. So it sure seems like he's making a concerted effort to have more of an impact! Part of it is that he is indeed playing more minutes at center, with Kevon Looney limited to more minimal bench minutes due to an illness. Green is playing a lot of his minutes at center, with JaMychal Green serving as a stretch four option.
