Lakers News: Expert Explains The 2 Reasons Fans Should Be Excited For 2023-24
Your Los Angeles Lakers' restocked war chest of intriguing young players and solid veterans may be exciting fans, but Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report believes the most fascinating assets the team has at its disposable are its two marquee names, future first ballot Hall of Famers LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Maybe that's not what fans want to hear, but the fact is, these guys when healthy remain among the NBA's best 30 or so players.
"The Los Angeles Lakers had a busy summer, but much of the reaction might be overrating the new additions or re-signings a bit," writes Bailey.
"D'Angelo Russell was played off the floor in the Western Conference Finals. Gabe Vincent is a career 33.9 percent three-point shooter," Bailey continues. "Taurean Prince had a below-replacement-level box plus/minus in 2022-23. And Jaxson Hayes' teams have been worse with him on the floor in three of his four seasons."
"But the Lakers still have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who won a championship in 2020 and just had an otherworldly net rating when sharing the floor with Austin Reaves in 2022-23," Bailey notes. "When all three were playing, the Lakers were plus-16.4 points per 100 possessions."
