Lakers News: Expert Projects Relative Value Of LA's Future Assets In 3 Years

LA has some nice pieces to work with going forward!

Since LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers back in 2018, the franchise has seen a rebirth. Before James, LA was stuck in a tired spiral of losing, but he brought the light back to the organization.

Then the following season, LA went out and traded for Anthony Davis to pair with James. The duo would go on to win the NBA title in 2020 together, and the years that followed were up and down.

Now entering their fifth season together, the Lakers stars are ready to prove once again that they can win a championship together. LA figures to be one of the better teams in the Western Conference this coming season, but what about a few years down the road?

James has hinted about retirement recently, and Davis has been injury-prone his entire career. So where does that leave LA?

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report ranked each NBA team's relative value three years into the future, and the Lakers landed just outside the top ten of the list.

“Anthony Davis, meanwhile, is under contract with L.A. through 2027-28, but he'll be 33 in three years and doesn't have the most reassuring health history. A team with an upright AD, Austin Reaves and one other star is probably still going to be in the hunt home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.”

Davis will still be with the team in three years barring anything crazy happening, and they will be trying to get another star player alongside him. But he at least gives them a one-star on the roster, as long as he is there.

The Lakers want to still be competitive in the post-James era, and they will always be chasing star players. It’s just who they are as a franchise, and it will stay that way.

“There's a chance that by 2026, this organization is mired in a losing situation similar to the one it was in before LeBron's arrival in 2018. But the Lakers are the Lakers. And whenever a big name becomes available, there's at least a chance L.A. can get involved.”

It will be interesting to see how things shake out for the Lakers going forward, but for now, they are focused on winning this season. LA has a great chance if they can have some injury luck, due to the awesome offseason that general manager Rob Pelinka put together.
