Lakers News: Expert Weighs In On Top LA Free Agent Signings After Watching Workout
Beyond just re-signing star shooting guard Austin Reaves to an insane bargain of a contract, and inking intriguing power forward Rui Hachimura and underwhelming point guard D'Angelo Russell to slightly generous, above-market deals, your Los Angeles Lakers also inked two critical new role players to ludicrously reasonable new agreements.
Point guard Gabe Vincent, a better two-way player than Russell who should probably start for LA on day one of the 2023-24 season, is hot off an NBA Finals appearance with the Miami Heat, and signed a three-year, $33 million deal with Los Angeles.
Across 22 regular season jaunts, the 6'3" Modesto native (and UC Santa Barbara alum) averaged 12.7 points on .402/.378/.882 shooting splits, 3.5 assists, 1.4 rebounds and 0.9 steals a night.
Combo forward Taurean Prince inked a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the club. As a versatile 3-and-D wing, the 6'7" Baylor product could have probably fetched a deal for more money and more years, but clearly was interested in contributing to a proven winner hot off its second Western Conference Finals appearance in four seasons.
Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson of Bally Sports was on hand recently to assess Vincent and Prince connecting during an offseason workout, and spoke highly of their upside as a tandem.
"Lakers have a solid group of role players in Gabe Vincent & Taurean Prince," Robinson wrote. "Last night the two worked out together & they look really good. Prince has extended his range and his jumper looks decent. Vincent off the screen and roll is gonna be a problem this coming season!"
Robinson provided footage of the new LA duo from the team's UCLA Health practice facility in El Segundo.
Our fingers are crossed Robinson is right.
