Lakers Fans Livid After Anthony Davis Blows Mavericks Game
On paper, at least, Los Angeles Lakers star center Anthony Davis performed pretty admirably in a hard-fought, last-second defeat against the visiting Dallas Mavericks last night at Crpyto.com Arena.
Davis scored 26 points while shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-11 free throws, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out three dimes, and blocked a shot.
In practice, however, The Brow kind of blew the game. After missing a late free throw that would have put the Lakers up three, 111-108 (instead LA was leading 110-108), with seconds remaining, AD next botched his defensive coverage on Mavericks big man Maxi Kleber. Davis floated on defense near the paint in the game's final seconds, before finally darting out in an effort to guard Kleber as he took what would be the game-winning triple. Dallas won, 111-110, and improved to 36-35 in the West standings, while dropping LA to 34-37.
Lakers Twitter was, needless to say, not pleased. One of the top trending topics tonight: "Trade AD."
I see no lies in this next one, honestly:
Davis really still seems hampered by the right foot stress reaction injury that shelved him for five-and-a-half weeks.
His teammate LeBron James was invoked at one point:
A CBA club was (jokingly) floated as a Davis destination:
Some LA aficionados were here for the trade chatter surrounding the oft-injured, maximum-salaried 30-year-old. Could LA even get fair return for Davis at this point? And would that look more like the Kevin Durant trade haul or the Kyrie Irving trade haul?
Another fan was apoplectic regarding Davis' final few seconds:
Can the Lakers survive long enough in the play-in tournament hunt without LeBron James? Maybe, if Davis can correct errors like his decisions last night.
