Lakers News: Former LA Shooting Guard Signs With Greek Club
Longtime NBA journey shooting guard Ben McLemore, who played for your Los Angeles Lakers from 2020-21, has inked a one-year contract with Greek and Basketball Champions League club AEK Athens, according to Ennio Terrasi Borghesan of Sportando.
McLemore and former Brooklyn Nets big man Alize Johnson held a private workout during Las Vegas Summer League for select teams, including the New York Knicks, per Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Evidently the Knicks didn't love what they saw out of the former lottery pick.
The 30-year-old out of the University of Kansas, where he was a First-Team All-Big-12 honoree, was selected with the seventh pick in the 2013 by the Sacramento Kings, ahead of several much, much better players, including (in order) No. 10 pick CJ McCollum, No. 12 pick Steven Adams No. 15 pick Giannis Antetokounmpo, future Laker Dennis Schröder (the no. 17 pick), and No. 27 pick Rudy Gobert. Oops.
Across 556 total regular season bouts during a nine-year NBA career, the 6'3" swingman averaged 9.0 points on .414/.363/.780 shooting splits, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.6 steals a night. Appearing in 21 regular season contests (one start) for LA after a trade from the Houston Rockets in 2021, McLemore averaged 8.0 points on .390/.368/.762 shooting splits, 1.6 boards, and 0.5 dimes in 17.5 minutes per game.
