Former Lakers Guard Claims He Knew He Was Getting Traded at 2023 Deadline
When the Los Angeles Lakers first welcomed Patrick Beverley aboard ahead of the 2022-2023 season, the general reaction from the fanbase was very surprised. Beverley had butted heads with a number of Lakers players in the past such as LeBron James and Russell Westbrook so people could not imagine how they would share a court and locker room together.
However, Beverley's gritty defense and improved three-point shooting led to LA believing he would fit and they were also able to get off of Talen Horton-Tucker's contract in the process. Unfortunately, Beverley did not fulfill the role that the Lakers had previously envisioned for him as he shot just 34 percent from three and 40 percent from the field and hurt the team's overall success at times.
Beverley did go viral near the trade deadline when news broke that D'Angelo Russell would be making his way back to LA as the defensive specialist tweeted 'Gang is back' alluding to them re-uniting after their time on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
However, not long after, he was traded as well and ended up on the Chicago Bulls. The NBA world made plenty of memes out of Beverley but he addressed this situation on his own podcast and revealed that he knew was getting traded and just wanted to troll Twitter.
"The trade happened," said Beverley in regards to the Dlo deal. "Whole time I already know I'm getting traded so I'm like s**t, I'm hitting Twitter like okay cool this about to go viral. Because if you work Twitter the right way, you can get anything you want out of it. So I'm like 'Yo gang back together', I knew damn well I'm getting traded."
