Former Lakers Guard Hospitalized After Scary Play During Overseas Game
One-time Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jeremy Lin, now with the Kaohsiung 17LIVE Steelers of the P. League+ in Taiwan, was elbowed in the face during a game, promptly hit the hardwood, and had to be hospitalized for more testing.
Lin played for one season with the Lakers, 2014-15. Across 74 healthy games (starting 30), he averaged 11.2 points on .424/.369/.795 shooting splits, 4.6 assists (against 2.2 turnovers) and 1.1 steals a night.
Though Los Angeles is technically his hometown team (he was born in Torrance), Lin was raised in Palo Alto, and perhaps accordingly got his first shot at an NBA roster with the Golden State Warriors, after he went undrafted out of Harvard University in 2010.
Though he did suit up for 29 games with a lottery-bound Golden State club during the 2010-11 season before being waived, the 6'3" guard enjoyed his breakout the next year with the New York Knicks. Injuries forced Mike D'Antoni (himself a future Lakers coach) to start Lin, who emerged as a real rotation player during a remarkable spring run dubbed "Linsanity" in the press.
He later became an NBA journeyman, enjoying stops with the Houston Rockets, Lakers, and Charlotte Hornets, before his body began to break down with the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks. By the time he was riding pine for the Toronto Raptors en route to a championship during the 2018-19 season, he was out of the club's rotation.
Since that Raptors run, the 34-year-old has played for Chinese Basketball Association clubs the Beijing Ducks and Guangzhou Loong Lions, enjoyed a brief nine-game run with Golden State's G League affiliate the Santa Cruz Warriors but never returned to the NBA level, and then joined the Steelers this January.
Last month, for the first time in P+ League history, Lin notched a 50-point, 11-assist, 10 rebounds triple-double.
