Lakers News: Free Agent Ex-LA Champ Posts Bitter Response About Rejected By Warriors
Former three-time Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard reportedly got fairly close to being a late-offseason addition to the Golden State Warriors frontcourt, only to see team president Mike Dunleavy Jr. and his front office staff ultimately opt not to employ the 37-year-old's services this season.
Now, Howard has taken to Twitter/X, with what sure looks to be a frustrated rant bemoaning the rejection.
After being selected with the No. 1 overall pick straight out of high school by the Orlando Magic, Howard spent 18 fruitful seasons in the NBA as one of its best defenders. An eight-time All-Star and All-NBA pick, the 6'10" big man was also a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and an MVP runner-up. He played with your Los Angeles Lakers in three memorable seasons, albeit at wildly different stages of his career.
Howard was first flipped to Los Angeles as a maximum-salaried All-Star for an underwhelming 2012-13 season, alongside fellow Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash. He ditched the Lakers as a free agent the next summer.
In his second nonconsecutive tour of duty with Los Angeles, Howard of course emerged as a surprisingly critic part of LA's 2020 run through the Western Conference (though he wasn't a big part of its Finals series against the Miami Heat.
Howard's most recent NBA experience was also his most recent Lakers experience, when he joined the club as a reserve center. Although this time his athleticism had even diminished from its 2019-20 levels, he was still a useful player. After failing to find a new free agent home last summer, he went to Taiwan, where he put up astounding stats for the Taoyuan Leopards in 2022-23.
