Lakers News: Fresh Details Emerge From LA's Summer Meeting With Free Agent Wing

He was in play for a bit.

Former Memphis Grizzlies small forward Dillon Brooks got an unceremonious offseason boot from the team that drafted him following an ineffective first round Western Conference playoff series against your Los Angeles Lakers this spring.

But the 6'7" defensive-oriented swingman, 27, wasn't wholly without suitors when he hit free agency in the offseason.

Per Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Dallas Mavericks heavily considered adding Brooks, while the Milwaukee Bucks were open to signing, him should talks have fallen apart between the team and their own incumbent free agent small forward, three-time All-Star 3-and-D wing Khris Middleton.

The Lakers also conferred with Brooks, but the team lacked the open cap room that would have enabled them to sign him outright to the level of money he would have desired, while also being reticent to suss out a sign-and-trade deal for his services.

Ultimately, that's what the Houston Rockets opted to do. He inked a four-year contract that could be worth up to $90 million (with performance-based incentives) in an epic, five-team sign-and-trade between the Rockets, Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers.
