Lakers News: How Max Christie Feels About Summer League “MVP” Chants

The Lakers could be onto something here...
In this story:

One player that has really stood out for your Los Angeles Lakers during the opening of NBA's Summer League has been second year shooting guard Max Christie

Christie was selected by LA in the second round of last year's draft out of Michigan State. He was projected to be more of a long-term play with high upside. Well, that upside has started to show and Christie has put on a show in the summer league.

The 6'6" swingman's growth in terms of his overall ability has been on display since the start of the offseason games and it has been a sight to see. He is more aggressive in driving to the rim, showing the ability to hit outside shots with regularity and has shown more defensive instincts as well. If he keeps this up, he will be part of the teams rotation once the season starts.

Christie was special in the teams opening win in Las Vegas against the Golden State Warriors. He scored 22 points, had seven rebounds and two assists in the game, adding onto his already strong performances. This led to the young forward to receive "MVP" chants from the Laker fans and he was asked about it after the game.

His response was funny and showed that respect that Christie has for his teammates. Austin Reaves and Christie are both key players to the Lakers futures so for both of them to be given praises from the fans is special. Even his coaches are seeing the improvement of the second year player.

"His habits are very unique," Lakers assistant/summer league coach JD DuBois said, per Khobi Price of the

Orange County Register

. "He's always there early, takes care of his body, he eats right [and] does the extra work."

Per Bleacher Report

If Christie can keep improving his game then the Lakers will have found another success in the draft. In the teams win over the Charlotte Hornets, Christie's shot wasn't falling like in other game but he still found different ways to contribute to the win.

The Lakers' Summer League schedule continues and it's going to be fun to see the continued growth of Christie. He is now in the "too good for Summer League" category and that is a great thing for the Lakers.
