Lakers News: How Shaquille O'Neal Believes He Would Fare Against MVP Joel Embiid

Is he right?

Your Los Angeles Lakers have become the NBA's premiere franchise in large part due to decades upon decades of winning. Across their 76 NBA seasons, the Lakers have appeared in 32 Finals (six of those appearances happened while they were still the Minnesota Lakers, but they count all the same), winning a record-tying 17. In that timespan, Los Angeles has fielded some of the greatest big men in the history of the game.

Shaquille O'Neal is one of the greatest of those great big men.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had choppier title luck. Philly has appeared in six NBA Finals, winning two championships. LA and the Sixers share one of those great big men in Wilt Chamberlain. Philadelphia has had some excellent other centers in its day, including Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins, Moses Malone, Dikembe Mutombo, plus the reigning league MVP, 7'1" All-Star Joel Embiid.

A meme is circulating around the Internet, suggesting that Lakers-era Shaq (who won an MVP, a title and a Finals MVP in 2000) would somehow lose against Embiid.

Keep in mind that Joel Embiid got roasted by then-36-year-old Al Horford in the playoffs this season.

Now, O'Neal has responded on Twitter, soliciting predictions from his followers.

Embiid is a terrific player, and assuming he can stay healthy another season or two will probably wind up joining O'Neal in the Hall of Fame, but it's pretty silly to assume that Embiid would have any realistic shot of containing The Big Diesel.
