Lakers News: Is Anthony Davis Returning To Fringe-MVP Level Play?

LA's star center has been on a tear lately.

Los Angeles Lakers star center Anthony Davis has been doing what he can in the absence of the team's best player, injured small forward LeBron James, and taking on an additional burden offensively.

Davis again proved up to the challenge of being the most valuable two-way player on the floor Saturday afternoon, helping LA steal a critical 113-105 win, while missing two of their three most important scorers (Davis being the third), against the Golden State Warriors.

After the game, Davis weighed in on how he appears to be playing with the same driving ambition on offense that he had earlier this season, when he had emerged as a pseudo-MVP contender prior to incurring a right foot stress injury that knocked him out of the running.

"Very comfortable, confident as always. It's good to see the ball going through, from all levels of the floor," Davis noted.

"Just trying to do my part, but just being a little bit more aggressive but also trying to make the right plays for our guys, get them going as well, which is going to open up the floor for me, late [in] games."

Across his past four games, Davis has been averaging 33.8 points on 55% shooting, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per. Presumably, he'll get hurt within the next week, as is his custom when he's really rolling. But until then, maybe the Lakers can squeeze an extra win or two out of his rapidly deteriorating body.
