Lakers News: LA Hall Of Famer Attends Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs Debut
The NBA summer league is a great time for basketball fans to catch some games and have some fun. It’s a good chance to see some of the younger players in the league and guys who are just hoping that some good performances will give them a shot. Fans, celebrities and players all show up in bunches to check out the games and it almost becomes like a basketball party out in Las Vegas every summer.
This year is no different as we’ve already see so many different people checking out the games and helping expand the reach of the NBA. One of the most anticipated debuts in NBA summer league history was that of San Antonio Spurs number one overall pick Victor Wembanyama. He made his debut Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets and the stars were out.
One of which was former Lakers legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He wanted to join all the fun and see the rookie sensation for himself.
Abdul-Jabbar has been a supporter of the NBA since his retirement and it's really cool to see him still active with the game. He's one of the best players of All-Time so it's always nice to see him out and about! He tweeted out that he will be in Vegas the entire weekend for the games.
It ended up being a slower debut for Wembanyama as he struggled from the field but he shined as a passer and defender, showing some of his skillsets that made him the first overall pick. He finished with just nine points but did grab eight rebounds and blocked five shots.
With the world watching, pressure may have gotten to the young kid and he also needs time to adjust to the speed of the NBA. Even though these players aren't the best in the world, it's still a different level of competition that he has been used too.
As the summer league has grown, more players and legends have started to show up. It's a great way for fans to get their basketball watching in and makes for a fun time.
The Lakers continue their summer league schedule and are 1-2 overall between the California Classic and Summer League so far.
