Lakers News: LA Legend Believes Victor Wembanyama Could Reach Heights Of Longtime Rival

Let's see how this pans out!
In this story:

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a number of generational talents on their roster during their long history of success and they have also embarked on a number of playoff runs in which they have run into some of the best teams and opponents and battled out deep into the postseason.

Jerry West was one of the best point guards to ever suit up in the purple and gold and he actually took nine trips to the Finals and only won one championship. Someone that he saw plenty of times was Bill Russell as he was the primary option on the Boston Celtics. And now that Victor Wembanyama is kicking off his own NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs, West actually sees some comparisons between the two of them.

“He reminds me a little bit of a bigger Bill Russell with a big reach,” West said. “Coming from everywhere, blind side – so any offensive player is going to have to be really cautious about where he is.”

Wembanyama is one of the most polarizing players to ever enter the NBA seeing that he is well above seven feet and contains a skillset that allows him to handle the ball and shoot like a guard. His first two games in summer league were completely different but his defensive impact was very clear.

West is only adding fuel to the fire when it comes to heavy expectations by comparing him to an 11-time NBA champion in Bill Russell. However, his physical traits do give him the potential to reach that level and the Lakers will see him plenty of times throughout the years!
