Lakers News: LA Superstars Top Writer's List Of Best 2024 Free Agent Prospects

Will they stay or will they go?

Your Los Angeles Lakers might just have one more season in the sun.

As John Schuhmann of NBA.com writes, there's a possibility that the club's two title-winning future Hall of Fame stars, 38-year-old LeBron James and 30-year-old Anthony Davis, could opt out of their contracts for the 2024-25 season and enter free agency.

Even in a possible free agent class containing younger All-Stars like Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown (he may yet ink the priciest contract in league history with an extension from the Celtics this summer), Toronto Raptors power forward Pascal Siakam, and Philadelphia 76ers point guard James Harden, Schuhmann views James and Davis as the (theoretical) cream of the crop.

"James’ son, Bronny James, will be Draft-eligible next year, and dad has a player option for 2024-25, allowing him to become a free agent and sign anywhere,"  Schuhmann notes."Davis can do the same via an early-termination option."

"The Lakers have, essentially, reshuffled their roster four times since they won the championship in 2020," Schuhmann continues. "The only players remaining from that team are the two stars. And the biggest shake-up of all could come in 2024."

The injury-prone duo is not getting any younger. Was their four-game sweep at the hands of the Denver Nuggets in this spring's Western Conference Finals their ceiling with this roster? If they can't get back their next season, will they allow team GM Rob Pelinka to recalibrate the team's surrounding personnel once again or will they opt to move on? We shall see.
