Lakers Guard D'Angelo Russell Perfectly Explains His Role in LA on Twitter
The Los Angeles Lakers are historically one of the most successful teams in American sports and the result has been a fanbase that sticks with the franchise through thick and thin and sells out home games no matter how many games are actually won. Like every other organization, they understand that not every year can end with a Larry O'Brien and that rebuilds are necessary.
However, they definitely do not like them lasting more than just a couple years and few know this better than D'Angelo Russell. The former number two pick was brought on to help lead the squad to greatness again along with Julius Randle and also Brandon Ingram the very next year. A couple of team chemistry issues and cap space complications led to him getting dealt away and suiting up for a couple of different teams until the Lakers needed a new point guard last season and Russell became available at the trade deadline again.

It was a classic Hollywood story when D'Lo touched down in LA again. The narrative was that he had matured in his multiple years away from the Lakers and that he was ready to their championship point guard this time around and to be quite frank, he was exactly what Laker fans needed after the trade deadline. He averaged 17 points, six assists and 2 rebounds in 17 games to finish off the regular season in purple and gold.
But we all know what happened at the end of the playoffs and that's what has remained in a lot of peoples' minds. The Denver Nuggets were a horrible matchup on both ends in the WCF for D'Lo and he averaged six points on 13% from three while getting played off the court in the sweep.
Russell's stock definitely dropped due to his play late in the year but he still showed enough beforehand to land a two-year deal worth $37 million to return to the squad. And he also took to Twitter recently to share to folks that his game is not as complicated as it seems at times.
If I can’t score ima get an assist.

Very well-said D'Lo! Let's hope he continues the tear he was on before the WCF next season.
