A 3-5 start would be bad.

After a nail-biter 108-107 loss to the Miami Heat Monday night, the Lakers now sit at 3-4. With a road date against the 3-3 Rockets coming up on Wednesday, Anthony Davis, who briefly exited (and ultimately returned... before exiting again) with a hip injury, has his status in question.

Speaking after the game, Davis revealed that he expected to be able to suit up Wednesday. Mike Trudell of Lakers.com cautioned that how the hip feels tomorrow morning could have an impact on Davis' availability against Houston, however.

AD's injury at least doesn't seem too severe, as he was cleared by team doctors to return and play on it. He didn't really do all that much after getting back into the contest, and eventually left for good at the top of the fourth quarter.

These injuries can linger and get worse if you force yourself to play. This is especially true for a big, physical player like Davis, who absorbs tons of contact in each game.

LA's matchup with Houston is also a matchup where playing without AD is far less of an issue than it would be in other games, as despite their 3-3 record, the Rockets remain a young, rebuilding team that is prone to mistakes.

Further, two of their three wins have come against a Sacramento Kings team without All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox, who is their best player. Against healthy teams, they're 1-3, with their only win being against the Hornets, who are predicted to be on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

We'll get more intel on AD's status in the next 24 hours, but it'd be surprising if he sat given his return to the Miami game.

Without him, however, the Lakers' defense and rebounding will take a major hit, and even if Houston is a friendly draw to play without him in, LA is susceptible to a loss given the void he'd leave.
