Lakers News: All Former LA Players Traded On Deadline Day
With the 2024 NBA trade deadline officially in the rearview, outside of some buyout candidates, all league rosters are set and final for the rest of the season.
For teams like the Dallas Mavericks, they'll likely have at least one – possibly two – new starters after the deadline, with their ledger almost resembling that of the Lakers last deadline.
On the other hand, teams like the Lakers stood pat, possessing confidence in their existing rosters to get the job done come playoff time.
Amidst the countless trades around the league, two former Lakers were dealt: Dennis Schröder and Patrick Beverley.
Schröder was moved from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, which seems like a reasonably fair one-for-one deal. Dinwiddie is a better offensive player while Schröder is a better defensive one, but in general, neither player moves the needle for either team.
Dinwiddie was disgruntled with the Nets, irritated about his role and playing time, which is what likely drove the move. Importantly, Dinwiddie, unlike Schröder, is on an expiring contract, ensuring at this offseason, Toronto will at least have some more cap to work with.
Patrick Beverley was dealt from one contender to another, moving from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Milwaukee Bucks. This is actually a massive move for Milwaukee, who needs defense quite a bit. Under his former head coach Doc Rivers, Beverley will look to be an immediate contributor on the defensive end.
