Lakers News: Draymond Green Insisted Warriors Keep This Asset In Any LeBron James Trade
Even though LeBron James buddy Draymond Green was advocating to both his agent Rich Paul and Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob that the Dubs should add the Los Angeles Lakers All-Star forward via trade at this year’s deadline, there was one key Warriors teammate he didn’t want to lose in any deal.
Per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Green insisted his Warriors hold on to blossoming third-year star wing Jonathan Kuminga, the former seventh pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
Green himself said as much during an alternate All-Star Game NBA on TNT broadcast… on TruTV.
“The one thing the NBA does not want to see, is Anthony Davis and Kuminga together for the next 10 years. That would be scary!” Green exclaimed.
Kuminga has absolutely turned it on of late, and given his age, rookie-scale salary and position, would have made sense as a key piece in a theoretical James-to-Golden State deal.
Across his past 10 games, Kuminga averaged 19.6 points on 54.6% shooting from the floor, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 0.8 steals a night. He has emerged as more of an offensive priority for Golden State than even Klay Thompson, who's transitioning into more of a supplemental role as his athleticism declines.
