Lakers News: ESPN Analyst Shares True Feelings About LA Roster For This Season

It seems everyone has something to say about the Lakers...

As we get set for NBA training camp to start here soon, we are starting to see more narratives for the upcoming season come out. Some of them involve your Los Angeles Lakers, and many are high on them after an incredible offseason.

General Manager Rob Pelinka deserves his flowers for what he was able to do. He prioritized continuity by bringing back the majority of players from last season that helped the team reach the Western Conference Finals, and he also upgraded around the edges to improve their chances.

Pelinka has built a very solid team that should be able to match up with any squad that is opposite of them. The flexibility and depth that LA has is impressive, and it should make head coach Darvin Ham’s job that much easier this season. The biggest issue will be how to spread the minutes out to everyone, but Ham is a professional and will figure it out.

As mentioned, many people are high on the Lakers entering the year, and you can add ESPN analyst JJ Redick to the list. He recently expressed his feelings about the LA roster and praised the team for their roster construction this summer.

“... I don’t want to be talked into the Lakers, but I’ve been talked into the Lakers being damn good this season,” Redick said in his latest podcast, “The Old Man and The Three.”

The way the Lakers have formed their roster is completely different from last season to start the year. They were held back by some financial restraints, and it hurt them. But this year, the team looks very good, and should compete for another title if they can stay healthy.

“It’s about how the pieces fit. It’s literally about how the roster actually makes sense. You’ve got guard depth, you’ve got Gabe Vincent, Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell. You’ve got big wings. This was the top defense in the west post-All-Star break. Big wings, LeBron, Taureen Prince, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and hopefully a healthy Anthony Davis anchoring this defense,” Redick added.

We have seen the Lakers have success when they put the right kind of players around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so they are banking on it again. LA should be a problem in the Western Conference, and could very well win title number 18 this season.
